Shed Model
We built these model sheds as a project to apply the concepts we had learned in the previous unit which involved the basics of architecture, building methods, and understand how structures are built.
Sample Floor Plan Project
Floorplan Project
For this project we had to chose between different available floorplans provided. Then we would have to recreate the floorplans in AutoCAD using the supplied information on the floorplans. The floorplans lacked information in some room sizes, certain window placements, door sizes, and some tight areas that would have to be adjusted to work properly. The goal of this project was to test our AutoCAD skills and our understanding of the prior information we have learned about how different rooms work and what characteristics those rooms should have.
Floorplan Elevations
For the elevations we had to take the floorplan that we had drawn up and extend lines from it in certain directions to create placement guides for different characteristics such as windows, doors, and where sections of walls start and end. one we had those guides drawn we were able to draw the roof and use a hatch to create the texture inside the different areas of the drawing. By doing this I was able to create siding, a shingle roof, solid doors, and a stone chimney. Then I was able to add color to the hatches making the siding a faint yellow the doors a grey tone, and the roof shingles a dark grey tone.
Section Detail Drawing
The Section Detail Drawing was the next assignment that we had to do which involved taking the outline of one of our side elevations and modify it to show how the wall will look and show the foundation and the relationship between the exterior wall, roof trusses, basement wall, floors, and grade. By doing this assignment we were able to understand how the different components of a house interact with each other and why different components need to be certain sizes based on other components.
2 Car Garage
We created a 2 car garage in order to learn how to use Revit on a smaller simpler structure. By creating the shed we learned how to create multiple elevations from a floorplan, draw a structure within Revit, create and manage new sheets, and how to modify items such as doors and windows.
Tiny House
For the Tiny Home project we had to create a small house from some plans that we were given. This was to let the class get more comfortable with the controls and interface with Revit while still under the teacher's control.
Family House
For the family house project we were able to chose from different floor plans that we would have to create our houses from. These houses were much bigger than the tiny house project and much more intricate and working details that we would have to do on our own. This would allow us to apply our knowledge that we have learned about the program and use it since we were now on our own with this project. In total the project would have us not only just create the house from the floorplan but create our own elevations, working drawings, interior details, square footage, detail drawings, and schedules for the windows, doors, and rooms of the house.
